Community School District 18
has been awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Parent Involvement in Science,
Mathematics and Technology Education grant to stimulate parents to become informed,
active proponents for high quality science, mathematics and technology (SMT)
reform education. The SMART Parents (Science, Mathematics And Related Technology
for Parents) program will provide strategies and materials for parents to support
their children's SMT education.
One of the goals of SMART Parents is to develop leadership teams of parents in each of
the elementary and middle schools in CSD 18. The SMART Parents program will provide content courses
in math and science and workshops in computer technology for all district parents. Children
and parents will work together during evening Family Science and Math sessions.
There will be evening and Saturday family excursions to places around New York
City that feature science and math programs.
